This is an exquisite Kyoto ware (Kyo-yaki) flat tea bowl crafted by the renowned potter Tezuka Keiun, also known by his art name Heian Keiun. The bowl is decorated in the traditional Sometsuke (blue and white) style, featuring meticulously painted landscapes and various circular "Marumon" motifs on both the interior and exterior. As a "Hira-chawan" (flat tea bowl), its characteristic wide and shallow form is designed to let the tea cool quickly, making it a seasonal favorite for bringing a sense of coolness to summer tea ceremonies. The elegant contrast between the crisp blue brushwork and the refined white porcelain exemplifies the sophisticated aesthetic of Kyoto ceramics. The item comes preserved in its original signed wooden box with a yellow wrapping cloth. Please note that the tea whisk and other props shown in the images are for display purposes only and are not included in the sale.
