This "Tabimakura" (traveler's pillow) style wall-hanging flower vase is a masterful creation by Rakunyu Honiwa of the Kochugama kiln in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. It showcases the distinctive rugged texture of Shigaraki clay, adorned with natural ash glazes and scorched patterns born from the intense heat of the kiln. The traditional Tabimakura shape, modeled after old-fashioned pillows used during travel, adds a profound sense of wabi-sabi and tranquility to any tea room or interior space. It features a ring on the back for wall-hanging but can also be displayed standing on a flat surface. This piece comes complete with its original signed wooden box, wrapping cloth, and information leaflet.
