This is a traditional Mumyoi-yaki tea cup from Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture, crafted by the renowned Ito Akamizu of the Kin'keido kiln. Mumyoi-yaki is famous for using iron-rich red clay sourced from the Sado gold mines, which results in an exceptionally hard ceramic that develops a beautiful, unique luster with continued use. This piece features a delicate, hand-painted floral and grass design set against the characteristic deep red body of Sado pottery.
