【Product Overview】

This is an antique ceramic incense burner (Koro) made in the Raku ware (Raku-yaki) style, shaped like a guardian lion or lion-dog (Shishi / Komainu). The figure features a hand-molded aesthetic with a warm, earthy glaze. The lion has a charming, slightly humorous expression, looking upwards towards the sky. It is designed with a removable head that serves as the lid, allowing the incense smoke to waft gently from its mouth. The neck features a relief collar decorated with a thunder pattern (Raimon). Includes the original wooden box inscribed "Raku-yaki Incense Burner, Mukai-Jishi (Facing Lion)". The piece has developed a rich ochre/tan patina over time due to age and use, adding to its Wabi-Sabi character. Perfect for use in the Japanese tea ceremony or as a unique antique display piece.
